Christmas Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

These sour cream sugar cookies not only taste fantastic, but are actually more flakey and subtle than the traditional recipes you may have a cross.

Ingredients
2 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 large egg
1 cup white sugar
½ cup softened salted butter
1 teaspoon plain vanilla extract
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon peel
½ cup sour cream
1 pinch of salt

Kitchen Requirements

1 Large bowl
1 Rolling pin
Cookie cutters
baking tray
electric Mixer

Preparation

Beat the butter with an electric mixer in the large bowl on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.

Add the sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Continue beating until everything is smooth and combined.

Beat in sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, and lemon peel until combined and smooth.

Stir in the flour to create a nice dough that can be mixed by handled by hand.

Divide the dough in half.  Cover it and chill for at least 1 hour.

Once the dough has chilled, preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Spread some flour on the surface and roll the dough until it is 1/4 to 1/8 inch thick.  Using the cookie cutters, cut out shapes and place 1 inch apart on a greased baking tray. 

Bake for 7-8 minutes or until edges are firm.  Transfer the cookies to a cooling surface to cool down.
