Italian Christmas Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
3 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 large eggs well beaten
1/2 teaspoon plain vanilla essence
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
nuts, dates, prunes or chocolate chips to sprinkle on top
1 eggwhite for brushing

Directions

Mix cream shortening and sugar together. 

Then add the two well beaten eggs.  

Sift all dry ingredients together.

Add the milk and vanilla essence and mix well till it becomes like a nice smooth dough consistency.

Flour a clean bench and roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.  Use a round cookie cutter to cut the dough and place the cut dough on cookie sheets.

Brush top of cookie with egg whites then sprinkle nuts, dates, prunes or even chocolate chips on the cookies.  

Add trays in a preheated oven set at 400F and bake for 15 minutes.
